Geoffrey Bowers was a lawyer who worked at the law firm Baker & McKenzie in the 1980s. He gained national attention after he sued his employer for wrongful termination, claiming that he was fired because he had AIDS. This case brought awareness to workplace discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS and inspired the storyline of the film "Philadelphia," where Tom Hanks played a character based on Bowers. Bowers passed away in 1987 at the age of 33. His legacy lives on through his bravery in fighting for his rights and the rights of others living with HIV/AIDS.
